Biography

Morgan Balfour

Australian soprano Morgan Balfour has been praised for her “thrilling clarity” (Sydney Morning Herald), “impressive vocal control and dynamic sensitivity” (San Francisco Classical Voice), and is quickly garnering attention in both the United States and Australia. With a strong affinity for early music, Morgan has performed with Pinchgut Opera, Australian Brandenburg Orchestra, Madison Bach Musicians, American Bach Soloists, Brisbane Baroque Festival, California Bach Society and was the 2019 Handel Aria Competition First Prize Winner. Future appearances include a recital at the London Handel Festival and a place in the 2021 Carmel Bach Festival as a Virginia Best Adams Fellow. For the 2019/20 Season, Morgan joined the Lyric Opera of Kansas City as their Soprano Resident Artist. During this time she covered Blonde in Die Entführung aus dem Serail, Musetta in La Boheme and performed Mrs Grady in The Shining (cancelled due to COVID). Opera roles include Pamina in Die Zauberflöte, Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro, Frasquita in Carmen, Governess in The Turn of the Screw, Younger Alyce in Glory Denied, the title role in Rodelinda, Meleagro in Atalanta and Voice of the Dawn in La Rondine. As an ensemble singer, Morgan was engaged as an AGMA chorister with the San Francisco Symphony for their 2018/2019 Season. She has also appeared as a member of the American Bach Choir, and as a member of Ragnar Bohlin’s vocal ensemble, Capella SF. Morgan holds a Master's Degree from San Francisco Conservatory of Music and a Bachelor's Degree from Queensland Conservatorium of Music.
