Praised by Opera News as a "vocally charismatic" performer with a "golden tenor,” Mr. Bakari has recently joined Atlanta Opera and Arizona Opera for Charlie Parker's Yardbird, Seattle Opera for Eugene Onegin and Porgy & Bess, Cincinnati Opera for La traviata and Le nozze di Figaro, Syracuse Opera for Così fan tutte, Portland Opera for Glass' In the Penal Colony and a David Lang double bill, Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra for Abyssinian Mass, Fort Worth Opera for Porgy & Bess, Raylynmor Opera for Pagliacci, and On Site Opera for Morning Star and Murasaki's Moon. Performances affected by COVID-19 include Carmina Burana at Carnegie Hall with the Cecilia Chorus of NY, Adams’ I was looking at the ceiling and then I saw the sky at the Cincinnati May Festival, Porgy & Bess at Nashville Opera and Lyric Opera of Kansas City, a solo recital at NYC’s Neue Galerie museum, and Die Fledermaus at Fort Worth Opera. Internationally, he has appeared at major venues in Dresden, Hamburg, Munich, Frankfurt, Cologne, Tel Aviv, and Bari. Upcoming engagements include Charlie Parker in Yardbird at Pittsburgh Opera, Prince Claus in Adamo's Becoming Santa Claus at Chicago Opera Theater, Goro in Madama Butterfly at Dallas Opera, Count Almaviva in The Barber of Seville at Intermountain Opera Bozeman, and Don Basilio in Le nozze di Figaro at Seattle Opera. A 2018 George London Competition award winner, Mr. Bakari's recording of Grigory Smirnov's Dowson Songs (Naxos) was featured by Opera News as a "Critic's Choice" album.
