South African soprano Marieke de Koker is a Senior Vocal Performance major at DePaul University. She is currently recording the roles of Fiordiligi in Così fan tutte (Supernova Opera) and Dido in Dido & Aeneas (DePaul Choirs). Past roles include Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro (DePaul Opera Theater), Madame Herz and Madame Silberklang in Der Schauspieldirektor (Austrian American Mozart Academy, DePaul Opera Club).

Biography

Marieke de Koker

South African soprano Marieke de Koker is pursuing her Bachelor’s Degree in Vocal Performance at DePaul University. She is currently recording the title role in Dido and Aeneas with DePaul choirs, as well as the role of Fiordiligi in a virtual opera film of Così fan tutte with Supernova Opera. She was recently named the George and Phyllis Muccianti Vocal Scholarship winner at Casa Italia in Chicago and won first place at the Charleston International Music Competition. In 2020 she debuted Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro with DePaul Opera Theater and studied the roles of Tatyana from Eugene Onegin and Tamara from Rubinstein's The Demon with the virtual Russian Opera Workshop. She was a prize winner at the Voices of South Africa International Opera Singing Competition and placed 2nd at the Hal Leonard Vocal Competition. She performed with Nicole Cabell at the Grand Opening Gala of the Jarvis Opera Hall. In 2019 she debuted Madame Herz and Madame Silberklang in Der Schauspieldirektor with the Austrian American Mozart Academy and DePaul Opera Club. She performed Eunomia in DePaul Opera Theater’s production of Cavalli’s L’Egisto and sung as a soloist in Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms with Windy City Performing Arts. During the Summer she starred as a guest artist at the Musical Bouquet Concert with the Lorraine Havemann Studio for Vocal Excellence in Pretoria, South Africa. With Musica Nelle Marche she performed scenes as Gilda from Rigoletto and Violetta from La Traviata and sang in many concerts in the Italian countryside.
