Biography

Katherine Jones

Soprano and recent Metropolitan Opera National Council Audition Encouragement Award winner, Katherine Jones has been described as vocally versatile and dynamic on the stage. Most recently, Jones entertained audiences in her role debut as Contessa Almaviva in Le Nozze di Figaro with the Moores Opera Center in 2020. Highlights with MOC include Millicent Jordan (Dinner At Eight), Diana (Orpheus in the Underworld), Gertrude (Hänsel und Gretel), and Sarah (Ballad of Baby Doe). Jones received her bachelor’s degree in Vocal Performance and Spanish from Indiana University (2018) and her Master of Music Degree in Vocal Performance and Pedagogy from The University of Houston (2020) under the tutelage of Professor Melanie Sonnenberg. In addition to her passion for operatic performance, Jones is an active music educator teaching piano and voice privately across Houston and a staff musician at Chapelwood United Methodist Church. Despite setbacks due to the covid-19 pandemic, Jones is continuing to perform locally and participate in competitions nationwide.
