Biography

Michael Colman

Lyric bass Michael Colman has performed roles from Mozart’s Figaro (Le nozze di Figaro) and Rossini’s Basilio (Il barbiere di Siviglia) to Britten’s Collatinus (The Rape of Lucretia) and Puccini’s Colline (La bohème). Michael made his professional debut as an Apprentice Artist with the Lyric Opera of Kansas City and went on to perform leading and supporting roles with Virginia Opera, Chautauqua Opera, Dayton Opera, Toledo Opera, Opera Carolina, Opera Grand Rapids, Indianapolis Opera, Opera on the James, Utah Festival Opera and Musical Theatre, Fayetteville Opera, and Charlottesville Opera. He earned degrees from Baylor University, the University of Kansas, and Indiana University studying with Peter Volpe. An avid art song and concert singer, Michael performed in recital with Warren Jones at the Manchester Music Festival, with the Dayton Philharmonic in Handel’s Messiah, and with The Virginia Consort in Mozart’s Requiem. Upcoming engagements include The Commentator (Scalia/Ginsburg) with Opera in the Rock, The King of Egypt (Aida) with Toledo Opera, and Colline (La bohème) and Ariodate (Xerxes) with Indiana University.
