Samuel Schlievert is an up-and-coming American tenor with an Italianate sound and style. From his beginnings growing up in the village of Genoa, Ohio, Schlievert first fell in love with opera as a young man studying music in Columbus at the Capital University Conservatory of Music, where he was introduced to regional opera singers on the stage at Opera Columbus. While Schlievert made several comprimario appearances in school and summer festivals, his first leading role was Rodolfo in La bohème, where he "shined with straight-forward style." He then continued his studies with tenor Jeffrey Picón in Oklahoma City. There, he furthered his career by making leading debuts in both La rondine and La traviata, the latter with Painted Sky Opera in its inaugural season, and was praised for "excelling in every category" and singing with "aplomb." He has recently been hired by Sarasota Opera and immediately showed his worth by being awarded the Stuart R. Silver Scholarship. Brooklyn Discovery lauded the performance in Nabucco as "Abdallo, an old official of the King of Babylon, was sung by tenor Samuel Schlievert, studio artist who is rising like the sun to a bright future." During the COVID-19 pandemic, Schlievert was able to collaborate with Dayton Opera and Painted Sky Opera for virtual concerts, and a string of very successful live concerts with Sarasota Opera. The Sarasota Herald-Tribune revered his performance, saying "Schlievert has a sure-footed and pleasing dramatic voice which can also wield a dramatic punch."
