Praised for her expressive and elegant performances in the title roles of Roméo et Juliette in the Netherlands and Suor Angelica with Red River Lyric Opera, soprano Amy Harris returned last year to Italy to debut the role of Despina in Mozart’s classic comedic opera Così Fan Tutte. Most recently, she won the Mayflower Scholarship Competition Award and the Orvieto Young Artist Award. San Diego born, Ms. Harris earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Davis in both Music and Comparative Literature and her Master of Music in Vocal Performance from Longy School of Music (Cambridge, MA). Returning to the west coast after graduate studies, she made her California operatic debut as Mimì in La bohème with Verismo Opera and as the Goodwife in Conrad Suza’s The Wise Women at Stanford University. Passionate about travel, Ms. Harris has performed in several countries, debuting in Italy during summer 2016 as Donna Anna in Don Giovanni. During 2017, she journeyed to Austria for the title role in Suor Angelica with the Vienna Summer Music Festival and to the Netherlands to cover the role of Micaëla with Opera Noord-Holland-Noord. Previous East Coast engagements include the roles of Amica in Amelia al Ballo and Denise in Offenbach’s The Lantern Marriage. An avid promoter of chamber works and new music, Ms. Harris has performed several chamber music concerts, contemporary works by Daniel Pinkham, Lori Laitman and Thea Musgrave, and premiered works by new composers such as Peter Evans and Lisa Eleazarian. Performing chamber music in intimate and diverse settings and training at Longy in Teaching Artistry has fueled her profound interest in Arts education and community outreach, complementing and enriching her passion and practice on the operatic stage.
