Biography

Erik Rasmussen

Erik Rasmussen’s unique and colorful tenor voice has been described as, “youthful, amusing, and crowd-pleasing.” (Brooklyn Discovery) Hailing from Brentwood, New York, his passion and ambition has led him to thrill audiences across the United States. His 19/20 season included performances as Oronte in ALCINA with Amadeus Opera, Rinuccio in GIANNI SCHICCI with Queens College Opera (canceled due to COVID-19), and solos at The Riverside Church of New York City. Recently an alumnus of Spotlight on Opera, Erik starred as Eddie Pensier in a touring production of the children’s opera THE BREMEN TOWN MUSICIANS, entertaining hundreds of children in the Shreveport, Louisiana area with his strong acting choices and comedic sense. While learning about artistic entrepreneurship and serving as a production/administrative assistant, Erik’s further engagements with Spotlight on Opera included performing as Prunier in LA RONDINE, Herr Eiler in THE IMPRESARIO, and Tamino in DIE ZAUBERFLÖTE, as well as covering Nika Magadoff (the Magician) in THE CONSUL and the Messenger in AIDA. His 2018/2019 season in New York City furthermore included engagements such as Jonathan in SAUL and King Kaspar in AMAHL & THE NIGHT VISITORS with the Arnold Schwartz Memorial Concert Series, covering the Sailor in DIDO & AENEAS with Stony Brook Opera, and numerous role studies with SingThrough Central. Erik will earn his Master of Music in Spring 2021 from the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College, where he studies with critically-acclaimed baritone Sidney Outlaw.
