Biography

COURTNEY ELVIRA

Courtney Elvira is a Mexican-American, mezzo-soprano with her hometown roots in St. Petersburg, FL. During the 2019-2020 season, Courtney appeared with Dayton Opera, performing Kate in their production of The Pirates of Penzance; Hansel, in Hansel and Gretel, for Brava! Opera Theater; Melissa in La liberazione di Ruggiero by Francesca Caccini and Ada Lovelace in The Infinite Energy of Ada Lovelace by Kamala Sankaram for Opera Ithaca; participated as a Gerdine Young Artist with Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, covering Virtú and Familiari 1 in The Liberation of Poppea. Her awards and honors include winning the West Tennessee District (2020) and Connecticut District Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions (2018), an Encouragement Award from the Iowa District MONC (2016). She was also a Finalist in the Butler Opera International Vocal Competition (2019) and a NYIOP/ Premier Competition Semi-finalist (2019).In 2021, Courtney will perform as a finalist for the Art Song Preservation Society New York Mary Trueman Competition. Ms. Elvira also maintains a budding commercial, film and theater career. She was recently featured in an HSN commercial for Carol’s Daughter Hair Care and a Cool Today Thermostat commercial. She also shot two independent shorts and one feature film to be released this 2021. Ms. Elvira will debut in two theatrical productions this coming Spring for the Bryan Glazer JCC JStage Series in Tampa, FL, She'll be Blanche Morton in Brighton Beach Memoirs by Neil Simon and Sue Bayliss in All My Sons.
