Biography

Caleb Slabaugh

Caleb Slabaugh is a freelancer in the Northeast Ohio region. He has been a student of both Mark Fisher and Charlie Vernon at DePaul University, and a student of Richard Stout at Baldwin Wallace University. He has studied with some of the top musicians in the region, including Joseph Rodriguez of the Cincinnati Symphony, and Thomas Pylinski of the Akron, Canton, and Youngstown Symphony Orchestras. He is currently an Associate Member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, and has performed with the New World Symphony, the Erie Philharmonic, the Akron Symphony, the Brass Band of the Western Reserve, and the Akron Symphonic Winds. Most recently, Caleb was second alternate in the prestigious International Trombone Association Alto Trombone Competition in 2020. He was the winner of the Baldwin Wallace Concerto Competition in 2018, and won 1st place in the Brass category of the Tuesday Musical Scholarship Competition in the same year, along with 3rd place in 2017. In 2015 and 2016, he was the 1st place winner of the Wright State Trombone Day competition and was a finalist for the American Trombone Workshop National Solo Competition in 2016. In 2018 and 2019, Caleb was a participant in the Aspen Music Festival where he studied with Per Brevig, Doug Wright, Timothy Higgins, Pete Sullivan, and James Miller. In 2016 and 2017 he attended the Marrowstone Music Festival, and in 2017 he attended the Cleveland Trombone Seminar as a Participant.
