Brian James Myer

Praised for his “beautiful, clear-toned singing” (San Francisco Chronicle), baritone Brian James Myer has established himself as a singer to watch for his performances in both new and traditional works. Recently, Mr. Myer has created roles in two world premieres with New York City Opera, Young Erich in Ted Rosenthal’s Dear Erich and Carlos in Iain Bell and Mark Campbell’s Stonewall, for which The New York Times noted his “buttery baritone voice.” In 2020, Mr. Myer debuted with Knoxville Opera as Mercutio in Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette and the Aula Simfonia Jakarta as a soloist for their Opera Gala commemorating Rossini’s birthday. Mr. Myer’s 2019 activity included his debut as Young Erich in the world premiere of Ted Rosenthal’s jazz opera, Dear Erich, with New York City Opera, his return to Opera Orlando as Fiorello and Bert (formally known as Berta) in The Barber of Seville, his return to Opera Las Vegas as Leo Stein in Ricky Ian Gordon and Royce Vavrek’s 27, his return to New York City Opera in the world premiere of Iain Bell and Mark Campbell’s Stonewall, his return to Opera San Jose as Falke in Die Fledermaus, and his debut with Syracuse Opera as Guglielmo in Cosí fan tutte. During the 2017-2018 season Mr. Myer debuted as the Dancaire in Carmen with Hawai’i Opera Theatre, a company to which he returned as Mercutio in Roméo et Juliette in the fall of 2018. He also appeared as the Minister in the US premiere of Alma Deutscher’s Cinderella at Opera San Jose, debuted as Schaunard in La bohème at Opera Orlando, and debuted as Papageno in The Magic Flute with Opera Naples.
