Biography

Andrew Gilstrap

ANDREW GILSTRAP (USA) sings Antonio/The Marriage of Figaro and the Jailer/Tosca at TDO this season. The bass-baritone spent the 2019/2020 season as a member of the Minnesota Opera Resident Artist Program. While there, he sang Basilio/The Barber of Seville and the Immigration Officer/Jonathan Dove’s Flight. Gilstrap is an alumnus of the Wolf Trap Opera and Des Moines Metro Opera young-artist programs. He has sung as a soloist with several Texas orchestras, including Mercury: Orchestra for the World and the Denton Bach Society, in repertoire including Mozart’s Requiem, Handel’s Messiah, and a collection of Mexican Baroque Christmas songs. Gilstrap sang with the National Orchestral Institute as a soloist in their 2018 concert “Pops Extravaganza: Bernstein at 100.” He completed both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees at the University of Houston’s Moores School of Music, where he sang many leading roles.
