Biography

Andrea Núñez

Praised for her “sumptuous timbre”, Canadian Soprano Andrea Núñez is establishing herself as a versatile artist. She is a recent graduate of the Atelier Lyrique de l’Opéra de Montreal where she performed the roles of Woglinde in Das Rheingold, Governess in The Turn of the Screw (in collaboration with Orchestre symphonique de l’Agora) and  Alice B. Toklas in Ricky Ian Gordon’s Twenty-Seven. Andrea was scheduled to perform the roles of Dame 1 in La flûte enchantée (Opéra de Montréal), High Priestess in Aida (Festival de Lanaudière) and Micaëla in Carmen (Sofia Opera). She will be returning to Opéra de Montréal to perform the role of Susanna in their production of Le noces de Figaro in 2021. An alumna of Opera Theatre of Saint Louis’ Gerdine Young Artist Program and the Santa Fe Opera’s Apprentice Artist Program, Andrea has worked on a number of contemporary operas and world premieres. At Opera Theatre of Saint Louis she created the role of Pvt. Sonia Gonzalez in the world premier of Huang Ruo and David Henry Hwang's An American Soldier. 
 
In 2019, Andrea had the distinct honour of representing Canada in the Queen Sonja International Music Competition in Oslo, Norway. She has been a District Finalist (Buffalo/Toronto District) at the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, the recipient of the Roberta Peters Award from the George London Foundation, and a finalist at the Canadian Opera Company’s Centre Stage Competition.
